Town gains transport cash boost
An extra 78,000 of Government cash has been awarded to Darlington for the council's work in tackling congestion and improving transport safety.

The money is a bonus for the council's good progress towards implementing its first local transport plan.

It is included in a total award of 2.8m for next year.

Additional funding from Cycling England will also be used to increase areas for cyclists in the town.

A report showed Darlington had made continued progress in reducing the number of people killed or injured in road traffic accidents.

It was also on track to meet targets to make walking, cycling and travelling by road safer.

Councillor Nick Wallis, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "This additional money will help us continue to work to improve transport in the Borough."
