Track improvements means trains can travel at 125 mph |
Train journey times from the North West to London will be reduced by more than 40 minutes from Monday. The West Coast Mainline has been upgraded so that trains can travel at 125mph for the entire route from the capital to Glasgow.
Almost 1,100 miles of track have been re-laid over the past three years, Network Rail said.
A new timetable reflecting the reduced journey times along the route was being introduced this week.
Improve signalling
The improvements are part of an 8bn project to improve the route.
The first stage involved an upgrade of the section between London and Manchester, while the second upgrade between Crewe, Preston and Liverpool was completed in June.
The final section in Scotland and the rest of north west England was completed this week.
A 200m project to improve signalling between Wilmslow and Sandbach is also planned.
