The first of a new range of tilting trains to run on the West Coast Main Line has been officially unveiled. The �11m Pendolino train City of Glasgow went on display at Central Station on Friday.
Operator Virgin Trains is hoping to cut journey times between Glasgow and London by 30 minutes when the new trains begin services in September.
The aim is to cut the journey times by 40 minutes by December 2005 following line improvements.
Glasgow Lord Provost Liz Cameron unveiled the nameplate and city crest on the new train.
She said: "I am delighted that this new train will carry Glasgow's name and crest to all the places served by the West Coat Main Line in Scotland, England and Wales.
"The improved train services we have all been waiting for will make it easier for people to visit Glasgow." Allan McLean, corporate affairs manager at Virgin Trains, said: "This will be a huge benefit for Glasgow journeys as there will be more trains running.
"It should also make the city a more attractive tourist destination."
From 27 September, Virgin will increase trains from Glasgow Central to London Euston from seven each weekday to nine.
The City of Glasgow is one of a fleet of 53 being introduced by Virgin on the west coast network.
