Strong winds caused electricity power cuts |
More than 5,000 customers across the east of England were still without power on Thursday morning after gale-force winds hit the region. At one point, EDF said more than 56,000 had lost power but most had service restored overnight.
Essex was the worst-affected area with 3,700 homes without power followed by Norfolk and Suffolk where hundreds were awaiting reconnection.
Some roads were blocked by fallen debris and flooding.
The problems began at about 1200 BST on Wednesday.
Broken tree branches and leaves brought down power lines in Norfolk, Suffolk, Hertfordshire and Essex where several people were injured by flying debris.
A spokesman for EDF said they expected the power to be back on everywhere later on Thursday.
