The singer is accused of attacking 39-year-old Sophie Amogbokpa

The 19-year-old star was sent for trial in a brief hearing before magistrates in Guildford in Surrey on Wednesday.

She will appear again at crown court next month accused of racially aggravated assault.

Miss Tweedy, from Heaton in Newcastle, was released on conditional bail.

Part-time student

The singer, who is one of five members of the girl band created from the TV show Pop Stars The Rivals, spoke to confirm her name, age and address during the five minute hearing on Wednesday.

She is accused of assaulting 39-year-old Sophie Amogbokpa, a part-time law student, who was working as a toilet attendant in The Drink, a night-club in Guildford, on 11 January.

Chairman of the bench Sue Urquhart adjourned the case for a plea and directions hearing at the town's crown court on 11 July.

Girls Aloud enjoyed a number one with their first single Sound of the Underground, while their follow-up hit No Good Advice and album, also called Sound of the Underground, are both still in the UK charts.
