Girls Aloud star Cheryl Tweedy has been charged with racially aggravated assault after an incident in a Surrey nightclub, say police. A spokeswoman at Staines police station said the charge followed an incident at a nightclub in Guildford on 11 January.
The spokeswoman said: "Cheryl Tweedy of Newcastle was charged with the offences when she returned to Staines today on bail.
"She has been on police bail following the incident in the early hours of 11 January at The Drink nightclub."
Ms Tweedy, from Heaton, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, was later released on bail to appear before South West Surrey Magistrates Court in Guildford on 25 March.
In a statement on Thursday night, she said: "I am totally devastated by the charge that has been brought against me."
