Vicar rescues village post office
Post Office
The village post office closed a week ago
A vicar has come to the rescue of a village post office that was closed down by offering to open a branch in her church.

The post office and shop in Sheepy Magna, Leicestershire closed last week when the owner sold up and moved away.

Now Reverend Annette Reed from All Saints church, has offered her vestry as an alternative venue.

The new post office which will open two days a week.

'very exciting'

Rev. Annette Reed said: "I just began to wonder if we could offer the church vestry as an alternative site for a scaled down post office operation.

"At first it didn't seem real but as the days went by it became clear we could actually run with it.

"It's very exciting."

The Post Office is offering a grant to set up the service as well as help and advice.

Wheelie counter

Neil Jones who is the church warden explained how it would work.

"It's a moveable counter and the post office doesn't leave anything behind in the church, because security was a big problem for us.

"Somebody will arrive that runs the post office, carrying everything in a suitcase, then you have a counter which wheels into a doorway."

According to the eager parisoners there are two people willing to run the branch which should be open in three months time.
