Villager fights daffodil vandals

The fields of flowers are in memory of people who died from cancer
A woman who helped create a Marie Curie Field of Hope in her village is asking people not to pick the flowers for Mothering Sunday.

Charlotte Cook and other villagers from Rearsby in Leicestershire planted around 8,000 daffodils in memory of family and friends who had died of cancer.

But many were recently trampled by vandals during a wrecking spree in the village.

Charlotte is asking people to leave the surviving blooms alone.

"I appeal to people to not be tempted to pick them, even though they are beautiful," she said.

To deter the prospective daffodil thieves, Mrs Cook is monitoring the blooms daily.

"I am hoping people will leave them alone so they can be enjoyed by the whole village."
