Milly's funeral will be held a year after she disappeared |
The funeral of murdered schoolgirl Amanda Dowler is to be held on 21 March - a year to the day after she disappeared. Surrey Police said the private service would be attended only by family and friends.
The 13-year-old's remains were found on 18 September last year in Hampshire, but her killer has never been caught.
Police officers are to go again to Walton-on-Thames railway station, where the schoolgirl, known as Milly, was last seen, asking members of the public if they were there last year.
Family ask for privacy
They will be stopping people between 1600 and 1800 GMT on Thursday 20 March and between 1500 and 1800 GMT on the day of the funeral, to ask if they remember seeing anything a year ago.
Officers will also be at Yateley Heath Wood, near Fleet in Hampshire, where her body was found.
A Surrey Police spokeswoman said Milly's parents, 50-year-old Bob, an IT consultant, and Sally, 43, a teacher, would issue a statement next week, but would not give interviews.
The spokeswoman said: "There will be a private service for invited family and friends only.
"The family have requested that the media respect their privacy at the ceremony."
Milly went missing after catching a train from her school in Weybridge, Surrey, to her home in Walton.
Police later said a witness had seen two men with a girl in school uniform 300 yards from where her remains were found.
Despite intensive police inquiries the murder remains unsolved.
