Memorial service for Milly
The Dowler family

A memorial service for the murdered teenager Amanda Dowler will take place at Guildford Cathedral on Tuesday.

It will be attended by Amanda's parents, Bob and Sally, her sister Gemma and staff and pupils from Heathside school.

Members of the public will also be welcome at the cathedral, which has seating for 1,200 people.

During the service, Mr Dowler will present a tribute to his daughter, and Amanda's best friend, Hannah MacDonald, will read a poem in her honour.

The public are invited to attend the service
The schoolgirl, known as Milly, disappeared in March and her body was found six months later in a wood 25 miles from her home in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey.

The thanksgiving service begins at 1300 BST and is expected to last just over an hour.

Heathside's saxophone group, of which Milly was a member, will perform during the memorial.

Search continues

After the service, Gemma Dowler will release balloons outside the cathedral to mark the launch by the family of a charity, called Milly's Fund, which aims to teach children to stay safe.

Detective Chief Superintendent Craig Denholm from Surrey police, who is leading the hunt for Milly's killer, will be among the congregation.

A private funeral will be held after her remains have been released by the police.

Detectives are still searching for two men seen near Yateley Heath Wood, near Fleet in Hampshire, where Milly's body was found.
