Body found in Thames identified
A body found in the Thames has been named as that of a woman missing from Surrey for a month.

Surrey Police have been investigating the disappearance of Jane Fitzgerald since she was reported missing from Sunbury on 1 February.

A fully-clothed body found in the Thames at Hampton last Thursday has now been identified as hers.

The 30-year-old woman left a house in Bridle Close, Sunbury, in the early hours of 1 February, when it was thought that she would be walking back to her home nearby.

Death by drowning

After she failed to turn up, police searched the area and contacted all her known relatives and friends.

The National Missing Persons Helpline also assisted with appeals.

A spokeswoman for Surrey Police said an initial post-mortem indicated death by drowning.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious.
