A Hull taxi firm is pushing for in-car CCTV measures to combat the rising number of attacks on cabbies in the city. In the latest attack, the fifth recent months, a driver from the Beeline Taxi firm was slashed with a knife and needed hospital treatment after his takings and car were stolen in the early hours of Wednesday.
The driver, who has not been named, picked up a fare at the firm's Beverley Road office and travelled to Regent's Close where he was confronted by a second man who produced a knife.
The passenger in the cab also produced a knife and both demanded money from the driver.
After a struggle both men drove off in the car, a blue Rover 600, leaving the taxi driver with cuts, bruises and deep lacerations to his body.
The driver was treated in Hull Royal Infirmary, but not detained.
Steve Leeson, of Beeline Taxis, said: "There have been one or two firms done recently, we do need CCTV in the cabs."
Humberside Police are looking for two white men in connection with the robbery, the first is 5ft 8in tall, aged 19-25-years-old of medium build with short black hair and wore a dark jacket or fleece.
The second man, who approached the taxi at its destination, is 5ft 10in tall, medium build and in his late 20s or early 30s, wearing a cream-coloured fleece.
