Extra 2,000 seats for Leeds fans
Bramall Lane
An extra 2,000 Leeds fans can now watch the match
Sheffield United have lost their appeal against an order to leave thousands of seats empty for their FA Cup clash with Leeds United.

The City Council's licensing board has agreed to allow an extra 2,000 visiting fans into Bramall Lane on Sunday but the club must still leave approximately 2,400 seats empty.

The first division club had stood to lose an estimated 100,000 in ticket sales after the original recommendation by the police and safety advisors.

Blades fans will now be unable to use blocks G and H of the Arnold Laver Stand to reduce the risk of trouble with Leeds supporters in the lower tier of the away stand.

Pitch invasion

The decision follows a series of controversial incidents at the ground.

Last month a fan ran onto the pitch and coins were thrown after the Blades lost 1-0 against Norwich.

The committee also took into account the problems which occurred when Sheffield United met Leeds in the Worthington Cup at Bramall Lane in November.

Home fans invaded the pitch to taunt the away supporters after a 2-1 win secured by a brace of injury-time goals.

A statement from Sheffield United said: "This should be a salutary lesson to all Sheffield United supporters who believe that the instances of misbehaviour which have given major concern to the police and authorities will not be overlooked.

"Sheffield United hope this measure will not be repeated."
