Managers at Swindon's newly-opened Great Western Hospital have sealed off wards after patients showed symptoms of the Norwalk virus. Two wards and a rehabilitation unit at the hospital have been closed to new admissions.
Patients have been tested and initial results suggested it was the Norwalk virus which causes severe stomach upsets, vomiting and nausea.
In January there was an outbreak of Norwalk at the Royal United Hospital in Bath. Two wards were closed to new admissions and two wards were partially closed until the virus was contained.
The �170m Great Western Hospital was officially opened by the Duke of Edinburgh on Friday, February 28. It opened to patients last December.
