The new archbishop was enthroned on Thursday |
The new Archbishop of Canterbury has preached in the Kent city for the first time. Dr Rowan Williams, who was enthroned in Canterbury Cathedral on Thursday, gave two services there on Sunday.
The archbishop met parishioners after the two services, the first he has given in Canterbury since taking over from Dr George Carey.
Sunday's services passed off peacefully after a number of protests outside Thursday's lavish ceremony.
A warm reception
The new archbishop preached to large congregations in services at the cathedral at 1100 and 1500 GMT.

Thursday's enthronement saw protests from pro-refugee groups angry at his reported views on asylum seekers.
There were also protests from within the church community, with traditionalists unhappy at Dr Williams' appointment due to his liberal views on homosexuality and women priests.
But Canterbury Cathedral spokesman Christopher Robinson says he expects the archbishop to get a warm reception in future.
"I hope it will be a very happy time, certainly the service last Thursday seemed to be a very happy and colourful occasion," he said.
"I think he's going to bring a warmth and a sense of humour - and a few surprises as well.
"He has made it quite clear that as Archbishop he wants to follow the established teachings of the church.
"He doesn't want to try and force other people to accept his personal views."
