Residents consulted over school plan

Pupils could benefit from school improvements
People living close to schools in Derby which could be rebuilt using private money are being asked to attend meetings about the plans.

Derby City Council is hoping that it will get around 46m to carry out the work under the Private Finance Initiative.

Five schools would be rebuilt including Merrill College and Sinfin Primary School.

Councillor Chris Wynn, who is responsible for education, said: "One of the real challenges of a PFI scheme is to ensure that we have the contracts right first time and they meet the needs of the school and of the community.

"For example, if the school has a chess club then we need to incorporate that within the terms of the PFI agreement."
