Village pays for anti-speed sign
Police and a mobile speed camera
A mobile camera is a vital tool in rural areas
Villagers in Gloucestershire are so fed up with speeding cars that they have agreed to pay for preventative measures.

Locals in Barnsley have given 1,000 to help supply the police with a portable electronic speed warning sign.

This is linked to a radar gun and flashes up signs that can be read from 800 metres, ordering motorists to slow down or stop.

Pc George Lager, rural beat officer for the South Cotswolds, said: "Once drivers get out into the countryside they seem to forget that the same laws apply as in urban areas.

"Because there is less traffic around, motorists relax and do not concentrate on their driving as much as they should.

"The aim of this equipment is to make people driving in rural areas aware of their speed," he added.
