| Wednesday, 11 December, 2002, 16:41 GMT Road facing speed limit rise ![]() People can contribute to the debate about the limit A Llanelli road where a number of drivers have been caught speeding could see its "confusing" 30mph limit raised. The local council has said the fact the B4304 is non-residential has misled motorists.
The road links the Sandy Water Park roundabout and Cambrian Street in Seaside. Carmarthenshire council is proposing to raise the limit to 40mph after officers claiming it was more suitable. Anyone with objections to the proposed change now has around four weeks to express their views. Inspector Edwards, from Llanelli police, said they were aware of the problem. "From working locally, we have had complaints and the issue has been highlighted," he said. He added that he understood how drivers could be confused by the limit. "It is a UK policy not to put repeater signs for 30mph zones. "The lightposts are at 200-yard intervals, which is an indication of a 30mph limit, but motorists can be confused," he added. 'Appropriate' limit A notice is being published in the local press and people are being urged to write to the council by 16 January. People wishing to see a map of the road concerned can visit County Hall in Carmarthen, or Ty Elwyn in Llanelli. "It is proposed to increase the speed limit from 30mph to 40mph along the B4304 between Sandy and Cambrian Street roundabouts in Llanelli," said Environment Executive Board Member Pam Palmer. "A 40mph limit is considered to be more appropriate due to the absence of residential development along this length of road. "The council considers that the measures will be desirable in the interests of road safety." The authority is using its power under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 which enables it to change speed limits. | See also: 09 Dec 02 | Wales 05 Dec 02 | England 04 Dec 02 | England 03 Dec 02 | Wales Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Wales stories now: Links to more Wales stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
