Traffic chaos as lorry hits bridge
An accident at the iron bridge earlier this year
There was an accident at the iron bridge earlier this year
An articulated lorry has hit an iron railway bridge on the A30 in Cornwall.

It is the fifth time this year a lorry has crashed into the bridge at Goss Moor.

Westbound traffic is being diverted through Roche, but the eastbound section of the road is still open.

Railtrack engineers have carried out safety checks on the bridge and say the damage is only superficial.

Warning signs

The driver was unhurt in the accident, which occurred at 1340 GMT on Monday.

Loose fibreglass from the vehicle spread across the carriageway, causing traffic to build up in both directions.

Police officers will inspect warning signs on the road to check they were working when the lorry approached the bridge.

The driver will also be questioned.

The lorry will be taken to a lay-by at High Gate Hill where the remainder of the load will be moved so repairs can be carried out to the trailer.
