Bradford Police promise purge on crime
Police in Bradford
Target teams are cracking down on drug dealers
Police in Bradford are promising "more arrests and extra patrols" to reassure the public they are clamping down on crime in the city.

Five people were arrested in one day on the Ravenscliffe estate as part of a purge on drugs, street crime and anti-social behaviour.

Now mounted officers and extra foot patrols are on the streets in the Undercliffe, Chellow Dene and Hellow Grange areas of the city.

The four-day crackdown is part of the Force's "Target Initiative" - the biggest campaign to tackle crime and the fear of crime.

Dramatic impact

Bradford Police have made 3,960 arrests in connection with drugs, burglary, violence and car crime since the campaign launch in April 2001.

Chief Superindendent Phil Read is happy with the latest chapter of the campaign.

"In just two days officers have made a dramatic impact on criminal activity across the division," he said.

Prevention advice

"During the next two days more arrests will be made as well as extra patrols to reassure the public."

People in Bradford are now being urged to see for themselves what the police are doing to tackle crime in their area.

A major policing exhibition is taking place outside Morrison's supermarket in Idle, where officers will be on hand to offer crime prevention advice.
