| Thursday, 7 November, 2002, 14:30 GMT Gypsies face eviction ![]() Bailiffs set to evict residents on Monday The Woodside Gypsies have lost an attempt to win an extended stay of eviction from their land at a caravan park. The Mid Bedfordshire District Council said a High Court decision this week has meant they can proceed with the eviction of the people remaining at the site in Hatch, Bedfordshire. Council leaders said the Woodside residents have the ability to ask the Court of Appeal for permission to appeal by Friday afternoon. The stay of eviction has been extended to 1700 BST on Friday. Council leader Brian E Collier said: "We are very pleased that the High Court has supported our action in this case." The families living at Woodside bought the caravan park in 1997 but the council says they do not have permission to turn the land into a permanent site. | See also: 29 Oct 02 | UK 04 Sep 02 | Wales 27 Jun 01 | Scotland Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
