Police investigating the discovery of human remains in Chorley received up to 50 calls from the public after a television appeal.

Officers from Lancashire police received a series of possible names for the man after an appeal on the BBC Crimewatch programme.

Earlier this week detectives unveiled a clay model of the head of the man, who is believed to have been murdered.

They said the man, whose remains lay partially hidden in a field for up to a year, had suffered severe head injuries.

Asian origin

A police spokeswoman said: "We've been given a number of names and other details but there's nothing significant or particularly exciting from those at this stage."

Detectives now know the man, who was of Asian origin, had a deformity to his legs that was probably a result of a childhood disease.

His remains were found on 26 July this year, by a woman who was walking her dog in a field off Back Lane, Charnock Richard.

It is thought the victim was aged between 20 and 30 when he died. He was between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 8ins tall and of slender build.

The exact cause of his death has not been established.
