Head 'reconstructed' in body inquiry
Detective Superintendent Barrie Douglas holding up the reconstructions
A cast of the victim's skull was used for the models
Detectives trying to identify a man whose badly decomposed remains were found on moorland have unveiled reconstructions of his head.

The body, which was wrapped in black plastic bags, was discovered on open land near Winsford Hill on Exmoor National Park in Somerset in March.

Detectives said they still had no idea how the man died or how long his body had been there.

It is hoped the clay and computer-generated reconstructions of the victim's head will jog somebody's memory and help to identify him.

Someone can't just die and be disposed of and have no family or friends that know he is missing

The murder victim is believed to have been aged between 26 and 36 and of Middle-Eastern origin.

Detective Superintendent Barrie Douglas, of Avon and Somerset Police, said he hoped the reconstructions, to be shown on the BBC's Crimewatch programme on Wednesday, would help the inquiry.

"We do feel that someone must know who he is. Someone can't just die and be disposed of and have no family or friends that know he is missing," said Mr Douglas.

"What we are hoping for is that someone, either the family or close friends, will recognise who it is and give us the information as quickly as possible so we can move this inquiry forward."

It is unclear as to whether the body was brought to the UK from abroad.

The clay and computer-generated reconstructions were both made by using casts of the man's skull.

Police also appealed to dentists to help identify the man who had distinctive dental work done at least a year before his death.

It was earlier revealed the man was wearing a gold chain inscribed with a verse from the Koran and Mr Douglas said it is possible he came from the Muslim community.

Pillowcase clue

The body was wrapped in a green single bed sheet and a single duvet as well as the black plastic bags.

Also in the package was a white pillowcase used by a linen hire service which supplies hotels and restaurants throughout the South West.

A wire from a stereo was also found and Mr Douglas said it was possible the man had been tied with it.

Forensic tests to find the cause of death and determine how long the man had been dead before he was found are ongoing.
