| Sunday, 20 October, 2002, 14:59 GMT 15:59 UK Carr back in prison ![]() Maxine Carr was refused bail on Monday The woman accused of attempting to pervert the course of justice following the deaths of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman has left hospital after receiving treatment overnight. Maxine Carr, 25, of Soham, Cambridgeshire, has been on remand in Holloway jail, north London. But she was admitted to the Whittington Hospital in north London on Saturday and taken back to jail at around 1215BST on Sunday.
No further details about Ms Carr's condition have been released. A Prison Service spokesman said: "We can confirm a prisoner from Holloway Prison has been taken to an outside hospital for medical treatment. "We cannot discuss individual prisoners or their confidential medical details." But a spokeswoman for the hospital - which is only two miles from Holloway Prison - confirmed Ms Carr had been admitted there on Saturday. Suicide watch Speaking from outside the Whittington, after she had left the hospital, BBC correspondent Clarence Mitchell told BBC News 24: "A police spokesman said they had no concern for her health at this stage. "She came here late last night under heavy police escort. "We don't know officially why she was brought in. Both the prison service and the hospital would only confirm that she had come here. "The hospital overnight said she was in a stable condition, but whether it was illness or whether it was a suicide attempt, we still don't know, but she has been on suicide watch ever since she was remanded into custody." Ms Carr, a classroom assistant, was refused bail by a judge at Norwich Crown Court on Monday. Questioning Her partner Ian Huntley, 28, also of Soham, is accused of murdering the girls and of conspiring with Ms Carr to attempt to pervert the course of justice. Holly and Jessica went missing on 4 August after being seen walking near their homes in Soham. Their bodies were found in a ditch at Lakenheath, Suffolk, on 17 August. Both Ms Carr and Mr Huntley were subjected to further "routine" questioning by detectives on Friday but returned to their prisons afterwards. Mr Huntley is being held at Woodhill Prison, near Milton Keynes, pending a trial. They are both due to appear at Norwich Crown Court on 15 November. |
