| Friday, 18 October, 2002, 12:08 GMT 13:08 UK Boy, 10, took cannabis to school ![]() The school would not say where the boy got the drugs A 10-year-old boy has been excluded from school after being caught with cannabis. The pupil, from Elmhurst Junior School, Street, Somerset, was excluded for three days after being found with a small quantity of cannabis resin, hemp seeds, a lighter and cigarette papers. He was caught showing the seeds, which he kept in his pencil case, to a friend during a lesson. Police were informed but took no action as the quantity of the drug was considered too small. 'Foolish prank' The school's headteacher, Rick Baker, said he spoke with the boy's parents and it was decided the child should be excluded as a punishment. Mr Baker said: "It was a foolish prank. It was just a bit of showing off. "The child has been admonished and he is sorry for what he has done. "Our deputy head will be working with the child to make sure he is aware of the seriousness of what has happened, and of the risks and dangers of substance misuse." Mr Baker refused to comment on where the child had obtained the cannabis, but did say it was "not a cause for concern". | See also: 05 Sep 02 | Health 25 Jun 02 | England 26 Apr 02 | Wales 17 Jan 02 | England 20 Jul 01 | Education 17 Feb 00 | Wales Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
