| Friday, 11 October, 2002, 15:03 GMT 16:03 UK Murder hunt after gun ambush ![]() Nottingham is struggling with rising gun crime Police have begun a murder investigation after a man died four days after being shot several times in a "premeditated" attack. David Barrie Draycott, 40, was outside his home in Nottinghamshire and about to step from his car when a gunman opened fire. The father-of-two managed to stagger to a neighbour's house and was taken to hospital after the shooting in Sutton-in-Ashfield on Monday at about 2120 BST. He died at about 1000 BST on Friday at King's Mill hospital in Sutton-in-Ashfield.
"It appears that Mr Draycott has been targeted, singled out and shot down in a quite deliberate attack on him and him in person. "This is unusual which is why I say this appears at this point in time to be totally premeditated and totally aimed at this man rather than anyone else. "Our thoughts are always with the family at this dreadful time." A post-mortem examination was expected to be carried out on the former managing director of a local sheet metal firm, on Friday afternoon. Police said they were following a number of lines of inquiry, including any connection with the shooting of another man in Mansfield earlier this year. | See also: 10 Oct 02 | England 04 Oct 02 | England 15 Nov 01 | England Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
