| Monday, 30 September, 2002, 06:50 GMT 07:50 UK Motorway about to get quieter ![]() The work should be completed by end of October Life should soon be quieter for people who live near part of the M62 between Bradford and Leeds. A three mile stretch of the motorway from junction 26 to 27 is being resurfaced with a new low noise material. The Highways Agency, which is carrying out the work, calculates that 90% of this stretch of this carriageway is within 500 metres of people's homes. Alan Duckworth from the Highways Agency says: "This is a heavily used section of carriageway and a key commuter route. Noise pollution "The resurfacing operation will result in a much smoother journey for drivers. "And the new quieter road surface will significantly reduce noise pollution from the motorway." The work to replace the worn-out carriageway will take place at night when a 50mph speed limit will be in force. The project is due to be completed on 20 October. | See also: 19 Sep 02 | England 03 Jun 02 | England 10 Dec 01 | England Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
