The force has released figures which show that 104 drivers were found to be over the limit during the school summer holiday period. This is a reduction of only four over the same period in 2001. Altogether 959 drivers were tested, but the results varied over the force's area.
In North East Lincolnshire there were 28 positve tests, twice as many as in 2001. But in North Lincolnshire there was a decline in the number of drivers testing positive. Humberside Police spokesman Inspector Steve Page has expressed his "disappointment" at the figures. He said: "Too many people are still making a conscious and deliberate decision to get in their cars knowing they have excess alcohol in their blood. "They know they are putting lives, including their own, at risk." | See also: 23 Sep 02 | England 31 Dec 01 | Scotland 04 Dec 01 | UK Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
