Beach huts to go, owners told
Beach hut
The Doubles built their hut 40 years ago
Beach hut owners at a Suffolk resort have been told they will have to give up the land when their leases expire next year.

Suffolk Coastal District Council wants to get rid of 58 huts in Felixstowe to make nearby land it owns more attractive to developers.

Owners of huts at Manor End - many of them are families who have used them for decades - have been ordered to remove them by March.

The council has promised to try to find alternative sites in the seaside town, but many beach hut owners are unhappy at being forced to leave their current site.

Sybil and Basil Double visit their hut most days
Sybil and Basil Double built their hut themselves 40 years ago.

They use it most days and are not prepared to give it up.

" We walked into our dance and everyone said our hut had to go - they had seen it on television.

"But I said it isn't going - I have faith," said Mr Double.

They inisist the hut will outlast them.

"It'll be here as long as we will," said Mr Double.

The council said it had been anxious to give the owners of the huts - nicknamed Felixstowe Village - as much notice as possible, but they say they will not give up without a fight.
