Hundreds of schools reopen after freeze as exams loom

Hundreds of schools have reopened after last week's heavy snow so pupils can sit GCSE, AS and A-level exams.

Arctic conditions had forced thousands to shut but many are reopening to avoid disrupting tests beginning on Monday. Some are open only for exam students.

Forecasters predict a "long, slow, erratic climb" out of the freeze. There has been a slight thaw in places but more snow in parts of central England.

Sarah Campbell reports.
