Airports in parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland are closed because of rising levels of volcanic ash.
Glasgow, Prestwick and Derry are likely to be closed all day, while there are plans to shut Inverness in the morning only, and Belfast in the afternoon.
Forecasters warn the cloud could drift towards northern England and Wales later on Wednesday, and there are fears there could be periodic disruption throughout the summer.
Nigel Thompson reports.
