Tony Blair talks about 'hopeful signs' in Iraq

Asked whether Iraqis saw the war as worthwhile, Tony Blair said he believed so highlighting vast improvements in various aspects of Iraqi life.

The former Prime Minister pointed in particular to vast improvements in Iraq's infrastructure and child mortality rates. He also claimed Iraqis were now much more upbeat about their future.

Mr Blair is facing questions in public for the first time about taking the UK to war against Iraq.

Sir John Chilcot began the six-hour question session by saying Mr Blair could be recalled to give further evidence if necessary.
