Execution 'barbaric' say campaigners

A campaign group has condemned the execution in China of a British man convicted of drug smuggling.

The Reprieve organisation said it was ''horrified'' that no mercy was shown to 53-year-old Akmal Shaikh from London.

Sally Rowen, the group's legal director, said it was a ''barbaric'' act against a man with mental health problems.
