UK government makes final plea for death row Briton

The British government has made a final appeal to the Chinese authorities, to try to prevent a British man being executed.

Akmal Shaikh was convicted of drug smuggling in 2007, but his family says he has a history of mental illness which has not been considered.

Foreign Office minister Ivan Lewis said the execution would be "entirely inappropriate" after last-ditch talks with the Chinese ambassador in London.

Quentin Somerville reports from Beijing.
