Cuts made to boost UK Afghan mission

British forces in Afghanistan are to get 22 new Chinook helicopters and other specialist equipment as part of a new deal to make operations there a top priority.

Defence Secretary Bob Ainsworth said RAF Cottesmore in Rutland would be closed and defence jobs cut, to allow £900m more to be spent on the mission.
