Prime minister Gordon Brown has paid tribute to the 100th British soldier to die in the conflict in Afghanistan this year.
The soldier, who was from the 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment, was shot in central Helmand Province on Monday. Next of kin have been informed.
Mr Brown said his thoughts were "with the families of all 100 soldiers" and that the best tribute was to ensure troops carry on in Afghanistan to ensure the security of Great Britain.
