One hundred British service personnel have been killed in Afghanistan in 2009.
BBC news has spoken to the relatives of some of the soldiers who have been killed in the conflict.
Lance Corporal Nigel Moffet from Belfast served with the Light Dragoons in Helmand.
The 28-year-old was killed on 30 May this year while on night patrol.
His father, Nigel Moffet senior, spoke to BBC News about his son's life, how he was killed in action and his feelings on the war in Afghanistan.
