In Pictures: Terror raids

Bob Quick, Britain's most senior counter-terrorism officer, has resigned after accidentally revealing details of a highly secret police operation to photographers at Downing Street.

As a result of the security breach, a series of anti-terror raids had to be brought forward and took place at several places in north-west England, including at an address in Wavertree, Liverpool.

This mobile phone photograph, supplied by student Craig Ahmed, shows police detaining a man at the library of Liverpool John Moores University following the anti-terror raids by police.

This photo was taken by Joanna Henry, who was on her way to work in Liverpool when she saw one of the streets blocked by the police.

This photo, taken by BBC reporter David Saville, of a letter appearing to show the intended date of the raids, was distributed by police in Lancashire to homes near where the operation took place.

This image was taken by Mark Barlowe, who witnessed the raid on the Homebase store in Clitheroe, Lancashire. He says people were shaken by the dramatic arrival of the police.

As part of the anti-terror raids, police also visited an address in Cheetham Hill, Manchester.
