Michael and Marie Shields say they hope their son Michael Shields will come home soon after winning what they believe is an important High Court battle.

The 22-year-old is serving a 10-year sentence for the attempted murder of a barman in Bulgaria in 2005, but has always maintained his innocence.

The High Court now says Justice Secretary Jack Straw can "grant a pardon to repatriated prisoners wrongly convicted in a foreign jurisdiction".
