The role of social services in the life of Shannon Matthews is under scrutiny after her mother's conviction for kidnapping her own daughter.
Karen Matthews, 33, was found guilty on Thursday of kidnap, false imprisonment and perverting the course of justice.
The BBC has learnt that Kirklees Council commissioned a psychological report into Matthews in December 2003 and Dewsbury MP Shahid Malik has called for an independent review into social services' handling of the case.
Danny Savage reports.
