 Drinkers are being urged to nominate pubs worthy of a plaque |
A scheme to honour pubs deemed to have historical or cultural significance has been launched by the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra). It has nominated 14 pubs which will get plaques and wants other old inns to be nominated by drinkers or licensees.
The George Inn in Bath is among the 14. It was the Duke of Monmouth's base before the 1685 Battle of Sedgemoor - the last armed conflict in England.
The pub plaque initiative was announced by the VisitBritain organisation.
VisitBritain recently revealed tourists can now stay in a pigsty, which has been converted into a residence at Domvilles Farm at Audley, Stoke-on-Trent.
The Eagle & Child in Oxford, where writers JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis met, is among the pubs nominated by Camra.
The Clissold Arms in East Finchley, north London, where pop group The Kinks first performed, is also due to receive a plaque.
