Former royal butler Paul Burrell returns home on Saturday for the first time since the collapse of his theft trial.

Mr Burrell has spent the last week in New York with his family, giving media interviews while the controversy over his revelations about the Royal Family raged in the UK.

He is due back at his Cheshire village, Farndon, at 1600 GMT, where the community are planning a welcome home party in the village pub on Saturday evening.

His lawyer Dave Warwick says that what Mr Burrell wants to do is resume his job running a flower shop in Wales.

But he remains in the media spotlight and on Saturday camera crews were parked outside his home in Farndon.

Mr Burrell's brother-in-law, Peter Cosgrove, told BBC News: "It's been a bit of a rollercoaster, really happy, but they want to get home as quickly as they can."

Mr Warwick said: "They [the Burrells] have got to get settled but then he's going to want to get back to the flower shop as soon as possible.

"He wants to get back in to the sleepy village with people who love him and villagers who have been behind him since this happened - he wants to blend back into the community, which he feels like he has disrupted.

"But obviously he's not going to be able to relax - there are various phone calls, offers and requests to consider. There's interest there."

Since Mr Burrell left for America, other allegations about the royal household have emerged, including one of the rape of one employee by another.

The Prince of Wales was forced to step in an order an inquiry into the allegations by his former valet, which were allegedly recorded on tape by Princess Diana.

Questions have also been raised over the Queen's involvement in the collapse of Mr Burrell's theft trial.

Mr Burrell was paid �300,000 by the Mirror for his story which was spread over several days.
