Thousands of civilians are trying to leave South Waziristan to avoid fierce fighting and there has been a huge influx of people at nearby Dera Ismail Khan.
Pakistan's army is continuing its drive against al-Qaeda and Taliban in the area. The BBC's Aleem Maqbool in Dera Ismail Khan says there is very little preparation for the displaced people.
