Sugar rationing hits India hard

A huge shortage in sugar stocks in India has led to soaring prices hitting ordinary Indians and businesses alike. It is believed the shortage has been caused by a dramatic drop in domestic production and poor rains.

The Indian Government has introduced strict limits on companies that stockpile sugar to check rising prices - but there is some doubt about whether this will fix the problem.
