Government officials in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province say Taleban fighters will withdraw from the Buner district that they occupied.
They will move back to the neighbouring Swat valley where the government recently caved in to demands for the imposition of Sharia law.
The withdrawal comes after US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, said Pakistan was a "mortal threat" to the world because its government is "abdicating to the extremists".
Mark Dummett reports from Islamabad.
