The Awami League party in Bangladesh has again demanded that the caretaker administration carry out electoral reforms before holding elections. The election commission rescheduled the vote from 23 January to 22 January due to a Hindu religious festival.
The leader of the Awami League party, Sheikh Hasina, warned at a huge rally in the capital, Dhaka, that elections without reforms would be resisted.
She gave the government until Tuesday to reply to her demands.
Shaikh Hasina said the current election schedule is unacceptable because the voter list is yet to be finalised and their demand for changes in the election commission has not been met.
A spokesman for the caretaker government said the interim cabinet headed by the country's president, Iajuddin Ahmed, will hold a meeting on Monday night to discuss the demands.
The opposition alliance has called a nationwide strike for Thursday, which is the last day for submitting nomination papers under the current election schedule.
Weeks of protests by the 14-party former opposition alliance have marred the atmosphere in the run up to elections.
