On the shores of the Humber Estuary, near Immingham, the Environment Agency is running a £4.9m project to reinforce a sea wall as a defence against rising sea levels.
The sea wall protects a power station, three chemical plants and 10,000 homes.
A new line of steel piles is being fitted along a one-mile stretch of the coast.
BBC environment correspondent David Shukman reports.
