Polar explorers trekking to the North Pole are surviving on half rations as attempts to resupply them were abandoned for the third day running.

The team is attempting to take measurements of the thickness of the Arctic ice during their 900km expedition.

But bad weather has forced one resupply mission to turn back and has grounded two other planned flights.

The team now only have a day's worth of food left.

One of the explorers Martin Hartley describes the harsh conditions.
