A British team has begun a gruelling trek to the North Pole to discover how quickly the Arctic sea-ice is melting.

During their 1,000km (620 miles) journey they plan to take measurements of the thickness of the ice.

On the 12th day of the expedition, polar explorer Pen Hadow describes the tough conditions that he and his team are facing.
