Pupils thrilled by sports night

BBC School Reporters Omari and Sukhpeet have admitted they are still excited by the big-name interviews they carried out at Sports Personality of the Year.

The St John Wall Catholic School pupils spoke to stars like David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Andrew Flintoff and Tony McCoy at the December show in Birmingham.

"I think about it every day," said Omari, aged 13.

Sukhpeet said: "I feel good knowing that I got to interview the stars and hopefully they'll remember it."

Ashes winner Flintoff was one of the sportsmen who stopped to talk to Sukhpeet, who added: "When I told my parents who I had spoken to they said you had better not have embarrassed yourself with your questions!"

Omari revealed that when he went home after a long night at the BBC's annual sports awards show, he had a hard time convincing his family exactly which famous sporting names had spoken to him.

"At first they didn't believe me but when they went on to the website, they were shocked and proud."
